A private phone number for Telegram

Telegram needs a phone number to create an account — and in many groups, that number can be visible or searchable. Sign up with a HeyNum number instead: the login code arrives in your browser, and your personal number stays out of Telegram entirely.

  • Login codes in your browser
  • Your personal number never touches Telegram
  • The same number for every new device

Why a second number

Your personal number, protected

With your personal number

  • Telegram accounts are tied to a phone number, which can be shown to contacts or found by search.
  • Public SMS websites show your login code to everyone who visits.
  • Lose access to the number, and you can lose access to the account.

With a HeyNum number

  • Create your Telegram account with a HeyNum number.
  • Receive the login code privately, in your browser, in seconds.
  • Keep the number for every new phone, tablet or desktop app you sign in on.

Set it up

Ready in three steps

It takes about a minute — and you never need to show an ID.

  1. 1

    Get a mobile number

Choose any of our countries. Telegram works the same with all of them.

  2. 2

    Sign up on Telegram

Enter your HeyNum number in the Telegram app. The code arrives by SMS in your browser inbox.

  3. 3

    Hide the number

In Telegram, set “Phone number” to “Nobody” and add a username, so people can reach you without it.

Practical tips

Five habits that keep you safe

Good advice, whether or not you use HeyNum.

1

Set “Who can see my number” to Nobody

Telegram can hide your number from everyone, including people who have it saved.

2

Use a username

A username lets people message you without ever seeing a phone number.

3

Turn on two-step verification

Add a Telegram password, so a login code alone can't open your account.

4

Ignore “support” asking for codes

Telegram never asks for your login code in a chat. Anyone who does is trying to steal your account.

5

Keep the number

Telegram sends a code when you sign in on a new device. Keep the number for as long as you use the account.

Contact support
Can I verify Telegram with a virtual number?

Telegram sends its login code by SMS, and your HeyNum number receives it in your browser. Telegram sets its own rules and may refuse some numbers, so no provider can guarantee every number; HeyNum numbers come from real mobile ranges, and if a code doesn't arrive, tell us and we'll help.

Can people find me by my number?

Only if you let them. In Telegram's privacy settings, set “Phone number” to “Nobody” and “Who can find me by my number” to “My contacts”. With a HeyNum number, even that number isn't your real one.

Why not use a free “receive SMS” website?

Those numbers are public: anyone can read the code and sign in to the account you just created. A HeyNum number is yours alone, and stays yours for every future login.

What about Telegram's anonymous numbers?

Telegram also lets you sign up with a +888 number bought on its Fragment platform. A HeyNum number is a real mobile number from a country you choose, so you can use it for calls, texts and other apps too.

Your new number is one click away.
