A private mobile number for WhatsApp

On WhatsApp, your phone number is your identity: every group, buyer and stranger sees it. Register WhatsApp on a separate HeyNum mobile number instead — the code arrives in your browser, and the number stays yours for as long as you keep the account.

  • Code by SMS or voice call, in your browser
  • Your personal number stays private
  • A number you keep, not a one-time code

Why a second number

Your personal number, protected

With your personal number

  • Every WhatsApp group shows your number to everyone in it.
  • Anyone with your number can see your photo, name and status.
  • One-time activation numbers expire — and with them, your way back into the account.

With a HeyNum number

  • Register WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business on a separate HeyNum number.
  • Receive the 6-digit code by SMS or voice call, right in your browser.
  • Keep the number for every re-verification, like a new phone or a reinstall.

Set it up

Ready in three steps

It takes about a minute — and you never need to show an ID.

  1. 1

    Get a mobile number

Pick a country — yours, or where your contacts and customers are. UK, US and French numbers are popular choices.

  2. 2

    Register WhatsApp with it

Enter your HeyNum number in WhatsApp on your phone. If the SMS is slow, choose “Call me”: the call rings in your browser.

  3. 3

    Keep control

Turn on two-step verification and keep the number for as long as you use the account.

Practical tips

Five habits that keep you safe

Good advice, whether or not you use HeyNum.

1

Run two accounts on one phone

WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business can each use a different number — your personal one and your HeyNum line.

2

Tighten your privacy settings

Set “Last seen”, profile photo and “About” to “My contacts”, so strangers who have the number see less.

3

Add a two-step verification PIN

With a PIN, nobody can register your WhatsApp account elsewhere with a code alone.

4

Never share your code

WhatsApp never asks for your code in a chat. Anyone who does is trying to take over your account.

5

Keep the number

WhatsApp asks for a new code when you change phones. Keep the number as long as you keep the account.

Contact support
Can I use a virtual number for WhatsApp?

WhatsApp only needs a number that can receive its 6-digit code by SMS or voice call, and your HeyNum number receives both in your browser. WhatsApp decides which numbers it accepts, though: its help center says some VoIP numbers aren't supported, so no provider can promise every number will work. HeyNum numbers come from real mobile ranges; if WhatsApp won't send a code to yours, tell us and we'll do what we can — often a different number does the trick.

Will my contacts see my real number?

No. Your contacts and groups see the HeyNum number you registered with — never your personal number. It looks like any mobile number from its country.

Do I need a second phone?

No. WhatsApp stays on your current phone: HeyNum only provides the number and receives the code. Use WhatsApp Business, or a second account where WhatsApp offers it, to keep both numbers on one phone.

What happens if I cancel my number?

Your WhatsApp account keeps working until WhatsApp asks for a new code — on a new phone or after a reinstall — and you would no longer receive it. Released numbers are also reassigned after a long quarantine. Before you cancel, move your account to another number in WhatsApp → Settings → Account → Change number.

Your new number is one click away.

Pick a country, pay with just an email and start calling from your browser in seconds.
